Improve Vertical Jump
There are several ways to improve vertical jumping; first you should set a goal. If
you play any kind of competitive sport there are regulations already in place. The rim of a basketball goal is
10 feet high. Volleyball nets are 8 feet high, if you participate in track the bar for high jump rises due to
competition. A standard hurdle in track is 42 inches tall.
Every athlete who battles to win when it comes to jumping wants to jump higher; it gives them an advantage over
their opponent. In order to increase your vertical leap you have to train your muscles to increase their function.
A vertical jump is measured by how high you can jump straight up in the air.
Since many people only practice jump training during the season they play a sport they tend to loose that
advantage in the off season. Trainers teach plyometric training year round so that you can stay healthy because
muscles at rest will not develop. When you were a kid you practiced jumping rope, hopscotch and even long jump
during physical education. The same rules still apply.

You have to practice in order to train your muscles; it isn't just mind over matter. Depending on what sport you
participate in your vertical jump might mean the difference between a win and a loss. In order to increase your
vertical leap for basketball you have to perform exercises that will strengthen your leg muscles to help them
perform at their peak.
Jump training such as leaping over an object or raising the bar to push your body to clear it is a great
exercise. You won't be jumping all the time but you need to have the power to get above everybody else when you do.
An increase vertical jump also helps to improve your ability to keep balanced. Even if you can jump over something
like a hurdle you still need to have enough balance to land properly on the other side.
In order to improve vertical jumping you should first warm up your muscles and stretch them, cold muscles will
cramp and cause injuries. Start slow and work your way up, the cow only jumped over the moon in a children's story
so don't get too ahead of yourself. Set a goal and work towards it, track your progress to see how far you have
come.
Basketball seems to be the game where height dominates; those who are shorter than the tallest player don't see
their opponent's size as a disadvantage but as an opportunity to improve their vertical jump. Those who practice
against giants are battling them, not themselves.
Vertical jump training consists of conditioning your leg muscles to elevate you higher with each attempt. You
have to work at jumping higher every day; there are athletes who improve vertical jumping every year. They most
likely have the gold medal to prove it.
